The Villa

The Villa

Es Ventalls is an attractive and spacious villa situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The house is secluded within a walled garden in private wooded grounds of over 6.500 square meters. It has a large private swimming pool, a full size tennis court, walled terraces, a barbecue area and a small wood. While Es Ventalls offers complete quiet and privacy, it is still only a few minutes walk away from the village and beach.

The house has an interesting background. It was built in 1942 by the famous Catalan architect, Josep Claret Rubira, on the site of, and using what remained of, the ancient village water tower. He was also responsible for the small church “hermita” at the entrance to the drive and the large Villa “Cuatro Vents” on the opposite side of the road.

Known then as “Villa Claret”, the house was a holiday home for his family until the early 1950’s when it became the property of a retired English diplomat. This gentleman changed the name to “Es Ventall” and was responsible for adding the walled terraces and for the magnificent mosaic of King George VI on the main terrace. He also bequeathed the 1953 coronation portrait of Queen Elizabeth II which now overlooks the entrance hall.

The house has now been in the same hands for over thirty years during which time, it has been enlarged, modernised and constantly improved, with great care always being taken to retain its attractive, unique and traditional Menorcan character. It is most comfortably and tastefully furnished and well equipped.
